A Glimpse into Maru Haus

Martine, also known as Maru Haus, is a graphic designer shaping her creative destiny from the comfort of her home studio. With a penchant for flexibility, she delves into various design disciplines like illustration, product design, and branding, giving life to her creative expressions through Maru Haus.

The Artistic Odyssey

Martine's artistic journey began with a childhood passion for art, evolving into a commitment to Industrial Design in college. The vastness of the art and design industry became a playground for continuous learning, even during internships and her initial corporate role. The spark for personal artworks ignited during the pandemic in 2020, sparking a surge of creativity and the birth of Maru Haus.

Crafting "Curious Objects"

Martine's art style is a fusion of geometric and organic shapes inspired by Bauhaus and mid century prints. Bold textures and vibrant colors breathe life into her creations, allowing her to playfully visualize thoughts and scenarios with a touch of personality, a concept she fondly calls "Curious Objects."

Digital Palette and

Traditional Dreams

In her creative toolkit, Martine wields Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for the base and texturing, occasionally embracing Procreate for drafting. While she navigates the digital realm with finesse, she harbors a longing to explore traditional mediums like gouache or acrylic paints, recognizing the unique vibrance they bring to artistic endeavors.

Guiding Lights:

Artistic Influences

Martine draws inspiration from contemporary artists like Tim Lahan, Marco Oggian, Kelly Belter, and Hermann Koudou. Maru Haus itself focuses on personal and relatable emotions, experiences, mindsets, flora and fauna, and a playful exploration of everyday objects.

Voyager and Explorer

Desk Mats: A Celestial Tale

Collaborating with Alpha Unltd, Martine birthed Voyager and Explorer deskmats. Voyager, inspired by the film Interstellar, depicts a spaceship hurtling into a black hole on a mission to save humanity. Explorer, on the other hand, contemplates humanity's role in the vast universe, showcasing an astronaut gracefully floating amidst the cosmic ballet.

The Creative Alchemy:

Behind the Scenes

Martine's creative process involves listing down subjects, drafting multiple outcomes on paper, and refining until the perfect composition emerges. Choosing colorways is an intentional dance, with Voyager boasting high-contrasting colors and Explorer initially embracing violet hues and oranges before adopting a calming bluish-gray palette.

Collaboration Chronicles: Alpha Unltd x Maru Haus

Collaborating with Alpha Unltd was a smooth voyage. Clear directions and a shared vision made the process efficient. Challenges surfaced in the final stages as the richness of design options unfolded, making the decision-making process a delightful dilemma.
